  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced Choose firm, fragrant berries for best results.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Use fine granulated sugar for even dissolution.
For the Whipped Cream
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream Use cream with at least 36% fat.
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar Adds sweetness to the whipped cream.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
For the Shortcake
  • 1 box shortcake biscuits or homemade shortcakes Choose high-quality biscuits for best texture.

Method
 

Macerate the Strawberries
  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar and stir gently. Let sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Whip the Cream
  1. In a separate chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
Prepare the Shortcake Bases
  1. Slice the shortcake biscuits in half horizontally. If using boxed biscuits, warm in a 325°F oven for 3–5 minutes.
Layer Strawberries and Cream
  1. Layer the bottom halves with macerated strawberries and a generous dollop of whipped cream.
Finish and Serve
  1. Top with the other biscuit halves and add more strawberries and whipped cream on top. Serve immediately.

Notes

Assemble within 15 minutes of serving for the best textural contrast. Store components separately.
